Aboard the Takeena, we utilize several methods of fishing for salmon and bottomfish. We often troll for salmon (Kings and Cohos) with the aid of downriggers but sometimes employ the technique of “Mooching” which is the use of a simple weight and a herring threaded upon a pair of hooks then dropped to a desired depth and retrieved until a fish eats it!

Halibut fishing consists of anchoring in specific areas which harbor good numbers of the flatfish. We send down everything but the kitchen sink for this species but most often the bait consists of salmon guts from our previous catches and herring. These guys really tug!

We fish as much or as little as you desire. As our local waters are often teeming with fish, it often doesn’t take long to acquire a nice amount of fillets to be taken home and leave time for other activities within the same day.

All fish is expertly filleted, cut into meal-sized portions of your choosing, washed, vacuum-sealed in labeled bags denoting species, and promptly frozen. As you prepare for your flight, the crew will package it in wetlock boxes that are labeled for airline travel. These will be taken as checked baggage.
